Special Investigation Service exposes employee of Ministry of Internal Affairs to coercion

The senior inspector of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Service Agency has been exposed by the Special Investigation Service to the fact of coercion against the citizen.

The investigation established that on February 7, 2024, in the city of Batumi, the accused H.V, in order to resolve his wife's employment issue met with the manager of the private company where his wife was employed. The accused put the victim in a car, verbally abused him and warned not to ask his wife to sign the official warning document, otherwise he would not allow the victim to live in Batumi and would cause problems. In addition, the accused did not allow the victim to get out of the car and by force demanded him to return to the car.

After receiving the victim's report, the Special Investigation Service promptly launched the investigation and in coordination with the Prosecutor's Office, obtained evidence incriminating the law enforcement officer's crime. In particular, the victim and other persons involved in the case were interviewed, based on the court ruling, the surveillance video camera recordings of the private facilities of the period of interest for the investigation were obtained and examined. Various investigative activities were also carried out.

The law enforcement officer was charged for the crime under the 1st part of the Article 150 (Coercion) of the Criminal Code of Georgia.

The crime shall be punished by imprisonment for a term of up to one year.

The Special Investigation Service continues to investigate the case.
