Petras Austrevicius: the so-called the draft law on the transparency of foreign influence contradicts Georgia's candidate status and threatens the country's European path

It's not really a European practice, we didn't ask Georgia to do it, so it's just not a European way to move forward. It contradicts the status of Georgia's candidate, poses a threat to the country's European path, - European Parliamentarian Petras Austrevicius said at the press conference, which was dedicated to the issue of the "Transparency of Foreign Influence" bill initiated in the Parliament of Georgia.

According to him, the government of Georgia is trying to present the adoption of the mentioned bill as a European practice.

"The Georgian government is trying to present this draft law as a Western practice, that there is nothing wrong and that the European Union has something similar, and that Georgia is following the best European practice by submitting this draft law. This is wrong, there is nothing similar in this regard. In the EU, we do not try to control non-governmental organizations in the same way that "Georgian Dream" tries to do it in its own country. So it's not really a European practice, we didn't ask Georgia to do it, so it's just not a European way to move forward. It contradicts Georgia's candidate status, it poses a threat to the country's European path," said the MEP.

It should be noted that the MEPs held a briefing together with the leader of the "Akhali" party, Nika Gvaramia.
